I’m selling my art as Prints and will be providing Print on Demand, I’m afraid due to lock down I haven’t been able to make prints in advance. My local printer has a high quality Epsom printer and should be open in mid-April, so it will take a few weeks for prints to be printed and sent out.
I’ve been doing commissions for trees, and other drawings like the local post office, and a romantic realistic looking giraffe holding a rose.
As a teenager and young adult, I didn’t create art myself, I tried to inspire others to create art through my volunteer work. At the local community centre, I would volunteer to work with children that needed the help of others to create, I would help others to paint pictures, build structures, create music and make textured art to touch and feel.
I discovered art through various avenues – museums, galleries, books and through studying with the OU and at Birkbeck. My studies at the OU taught me how to study the history of art, write an essay and study the unwitting testimonies of art. From the Japanese I studied at Birkbeck I learned the history of art in many forms including over 400 kanji. One day I was practicing on a train and a Japanese lady leaned over and told me that my kanji were so natural, like a Japanese person. This was the first time I felt I had some drawing ability.
For a couple of decades, I’ve been volunteering to run and help run art shows at science fiction conventions, and occasionally managing art shows at Foyles. The art was hugely wide ranging. I had exhibits of jewellery, wood, 3D models, fine art and illustrative art. Artists exhibited from all over the world and with different backgrounds would exhibit. The subjects exhibited covered a very wide range of genres including gothic, space, portrait art, contemporary, modern and political art. I would walk around the exhibits and feel so inspired.
In February 2017 Neil McChrystal invited me to a 28 day drawing challenge. Since then I have created a piece of art every day. Being able to create has given me so much happiness and joy, which I am delighted to share with you.
